Traditional Music of Iveragh Volume 2

The tunes contained in this second volume of music selected from the Binneas Collection have been transcribed from reel to reel recordings made in the nineteen seventies and early eighties. The three musicians: Jeremiah Coffey (Ballydarrig), Joe O’Connor (Garrydine) and Diarmuid Clifford (Foilmore) all lived within a short distance of each other in the Civil Parish of Killinane, Co. Kerry. The tunes are an historical record of the style and musical repertoire of this part of South Kerry in times past. They are the testaments of the musicians who played them. They say, ‘I was here, I existed, this is my music and for a while it broke the silence’.

Chiarraí. Taifead stairiúil atá sna foinn seo ar an stíl agus ar an stór ceoil a bhíodh sa chuid seo de leithinis Uíbh Ráthaigh san am atá thart. Léiriú is ea iad ar na ceoltóirí a sheinn iad. Is é a bhíonn le rá acu, ‘Bhíos anseo, b’ann dom agus b’é seo mo chuid ceoil, ceol a chuir an tost ar gcúl ar feadh tamaillín beag gairid’.
