Séamuisín

Amhrán éadrom aerach atá le fáil go forleathan ar fud na Mumhan. Is minic an t-amhrán curtha in oiriúint don gceantar ina faightear é. Baintear leas as logainmneacha áitiúla chun blas logánta a chur air. B’é Pádraig Ó Laoghaire, Baile na bhFlann a bhronn an leagan áirithe seo ar thionscnamh Binneas.

This lively, light-hearted song can be found throughout Munster. The song is often tweaked, mainly through the alteration of placenames, to reflect the locality in which it is being sung. This particular version of the song came to the Binneas Collection via Pádraig Ó Laoghaire from Baile na bhFlann in the Glen.

Walt Disney, a friend of Charlie Chaplin suggested Waterville as a holiday destination knowing Charlie had a keen interest in fly-fishing

What does little birdie say?

This song, probably sung as a lullaby, comes from the collection of Máire Bean Uí Shé (R.I.P).

What does little birdie say

In her nest at peep of day?

“Let me rise says little birdie

Let me rise and fly away.”
