Binneas update

It has been a busy couple of months for the ‘Binneas Collection’.

The entire collection of the recordings of songs, stories, folklore and life in Kerry of Mikeen McCarthy have been donated.

The Binneas ‘meitheals’ uncovered a large volume of new material including recordings that will require a lot of work over the coming winter.

A manuscript of sixty two songs in the Irish language from the area and a recording of thirty two of the songs are being digitised from inclusion in the website. This project is being supported by ‘Coiste Cumas Ceantar Uíbh Ráthaigh’.

After an extensive period of research by Peter Mullarkey, a valuable manuscript of music from the area has been uncovered in UCD National folklore collection. The discovery was facilitated by the former director of the collection, Ríonach uí Ógáin.

A piece has been written for the ‘Caherdaniel Parish Magazine’ about the Binneas Collection and music, song and folklore connected to the Caherdaniel parish.
